Mission Statement

This site is intended for all the natives or anyone who cares Eastern Samar to become aware of the great challenge to unite, and discover, learn, preserve then share the heritage of our native land.

It is more on something about the heritage our ancestors had in the past that we have not recieved yet or those heritages that we keep on ignoring.

We believe many are already into the idea for unity and taking care of our heritage and this is about time for us to act, while there is the least instance for a greater rescue.

It is now... that we must make our move, while the people who are holding the greater part of the map of our treasures are still living--our senior citizens. and we also know that they will naturally go away on a time we cannot predict, so again please let us make our step now.

Heritage is something passed on from a predecessor or from the past, down to its successor or successors. it could be natural, structure, object, customs. It could be tangible or intangible.

Natural heritage are those tangible heritage like, the landscapes particularlly those with has an unusual looks, forest, caves, ponds and springs, waterfalls, rivers, reefs, and seas. It also include plants and animals of all species. In other words anything natural, from the peak of the "grand mountain" (bukid apoy) of Samar island rolling down to the deepest seas of the pacific ocean, that had been passed on to us by our ancestors.

Structures made by humans from the past that are very significant monument or landmark to the history and culture of our native land. these includes architectural heritage like of old buildings, walls, water wells, staircases, trails or roads, bridges, towers, houses, monuments and others. The bell tower of the "Borongan Cathedral" is one example of an structural heritage from the spanish period (see illust. 1).

Objects made and or used by the natives particularly from the ancestors of the father land. These things exhibits very important value, proving how rich the culture our ancestors have. These things also reflects how the old civilizations exist in our nativeland. some of these are furnishings, cooking utinsels, jars, baskets, weapons, relegious objects like idols, clothing, toys, machines or tools, vehicles like boat, and more.

Customs or traditions that are usually intangible. It includes cooking, therapy or healing, litirature and language, music and singing, dances, rituals, special events, games, occupation or livelihood, and other beliefs and ideas or way of living. "Salukara" of Borongan and Pudpud from Sulat are two examples of a product of traditional cooking, "kuslim" for games, "ado'" for dance, "hadang" for rituals, "pamangki'" for livelihood and more.

Historical places like archeological sites, fields, mountains, ocean floor with past evidences sunken vessels, or any area of the dryland that supplies evidencies, reminders, and visualizations to important tales, stories, and history or events from the past, etc.. "mount kabil" (bukid Kabil) is an example of an archeological site in Borongan.

One of the ancient landmarks of Borongan City is the Bell tower of the "Borongan Cathedral". The structure is itself a heritage but within it is another heritage which is the old bells and the banging styles or patterns which is been used in the olden days.

Another example of a man made heritage of Eastern Samar is the Guiuan's "Emmaculate Conception Church". see picture below.
